I am Light Yoga was founded with the desire to change the lives of children and teens by providing them with the tools which they can use well into their adult years

Just like us, our kids live in a busy world, prone to so many stresses and demands: various lessons, developmental challenges, sports practices, peer relationships, and the business of just growing up!  Kids, just like adults, struggle to unwind and find a quiet place to manage their stress and anxieties which can have a direct impact on their health, both mentally and physically.

A fusion of yoga & FUN for kids!

Kids Yoga is the best activity for children to teach them to connect with their true self whenever they wish and experience a sense of peace.  Yoga can help them feel more at ease with themselves, more focused, more self-confident, stronger, more relaxed, more compassionate and less reactive; through physical activity which is non-competitive, creative and FUN!

Yoga is not only for grownups.

Traditional & non-traditional

Our classes incorporate the use of traditional and non-traditional yoga poses, props, music, fun imaginative play and breathing and relaxation practices. Class session times vary according to the childrens’ ages in the group. Each of the yoga classes are extremely flexible and can be themed to incorporate the childrens’ interests or to support the program’s current focus. Samples themes include ABC, Numbers, Farm Adventures, African Adventure, A Day at the Beach, Animals, Transport, etc.

Bachelor of Business (Accounting), Cert III Children Services, Rainbow Kids Yoga Teacher Training, Level 1 Purna Yoga (current studies)

Candice Smart

(Founder)

My name is Candice Smart or fondly nicknamed as 'Yogi' or 'Yogs", by the little yogis in my classes.  I am a mother of two, lover of life and a huge kid at heart that loves children and yoga.  I feel extremely blessed to have been able to combine both of my passions, children and yoga, and share them through I AM LIGHT YOGA.

I only found Yoga, or shall I say that it found me, when I was thirty.  I used to be a gym junkie who believed that I was only really working out or getting those endorphins moving was if I was breaking  into a huge sweat...I am sure you've heard the saying 'no pain, no gain' before, well, that had been my motto through life be it work or exercise.

In 2007, whilst pregnant, I exchanged my gym workouts for prenatal yoga classes to assist with my lower back pains.  Unbeknownst to me, it would become one of my biggest passions in life.  Yoga worked wonders, not only in decreasing my lower back pain but also in improving my strength and flexibility.  I also found that it helped in reducing my stress and anxiety, my regular sessions gave me a happy, calm glow through the remainder of my pregnancy, child birth the many years that have followed.  My gym towel has since been hung up for good and my regular yoga practice includes Hatha, Flow and Yin Yoga.

There have been times where I sit and wonder what my earlier life would have been like had I been introduced to yoga and meditation earlier.  Could I have escaped my anxiety?  Could my teenage years have been less awkward?  Could I have had an easier, calmer, more peaceful existence in my earlier years?  I think perhaps yes – all of those things. But looking back is fruitless if not to appreciate the lessons of the path I have lived in coming to be the person I am today.  I believe that all our experiences and journey lead us to our true destiny and our calling.  I am extremely grateful that my path led me to becoming a Children's Yoga Teacher and that I am able to share the gift, foundation and love of Yoga that I wish I could have learnt from an early age.

My background as an Early Childhood Educator, the understanding importance of fine motor skills, development and play based learning has enabled me to share Yoga with even the youngest yogi so that they too can have tools which can be used on a daily basis to practice inner peace, compassion and self love.
